19 month old boy sleeping trouble?

Long story short, the boy crawled out of his crib about a month ago, cracked his head pretty good. Crib was gone and now he's in a bed. Trouble is he'll only settle with my wife, and now that's not working. We're talking approx 90 minutes (usually more) fighting with him. He'll play, throw tantrums, and just generally make a nuisance of himself. He won't settle with me, he'll just flip out. We've had probs before with our 2 daughters, but this one is a whole, nother level! We can't cut out the nap, we know he'd be asleep by 5 or 6, then we'd be really screwed. We've tried most common ideas, let him scream, gates, our bed-No go. Any takers on this one?
