Is this inappropriate? Lecturer/student topic.?

I'm an intelligent and mature person. I don't often get girlie "crushes" or anything like that. Having said this I am attractive, confident, and picky and find myself intellectually and emotionally fascinated with one of my university tutors. I have not told him, as we continue to work together, but as I'm gradutaing in a few months time I do plan to either tell him via Email and/or ask him out. He is an intelligent, slightly reserved person do you think he will find this silly or inappropriate behaviour? And which method (confession/asking out) would most guys prefer? I worry he'll find me overwhelming because we're so different in persona.
