TS2: What's up with all the fires in Open For Business?

Is it just me or do sims seem to have more fires while cooking? What's especially irritating is that for me it's the sims that have maxed out thier cooking skill. What's the most disappointing is that after the fireman comes to put it out, the game won't let me clean up the food that started the fire in the first place. So I'm stuck with a oven/stove I can't use or delete. Any suggestions?
